Construction for
a New Layout - Updated April 2009
(scroll to the
bottom for the latest pics)
This
page will have construction photo's to show our progress in our
new home in the Hotel Leatherrock. We have been given four rooms
on the west side of the hotel on the 2nd floor to use for the
new layout being designed. Our new HO scale layout will focus
on three railroads in Coffeyville. The Missouri Pacific, MKT &
Santa Fe. After leaving Coffeyville, we will have some "country"
running heading out to Avian and the industrial park. The town
of Liberty will be next with a passing track, grain elevator and
lumber yard. Rounding the corner to the center peninsula, half
of this area in length will be Cherryvale and the final curve
back onto itself running the length of the same peninsula will
be Chanute yard /staging. The end of the line, so to speak.
The club will employ new construction
techniques on this layout that hasn't been done in the past. For
the most part, the benchwork will be all L-Girder and the layout
will appear to "float" off of the floor because of the
way we are designing the support brackets. The new layout will
also be built 50 inches off of the floor, just about the right
eye level for most of our members. The enclosed photo's below
will highlight some of the construction we are going thru presently
to finish the rooms and ready them for new benchwork.

Update - 4/09- Benchwork has been moving along at a brisk pace since
January. We will have some window finishing work to do when the
weather allows, so we build the L-girder frames in complete wall
section kits so that at a later date all we have to do is screw
together the final pieces and secure to the walls. This has worked
well for us so that progress is always moving forward and not
stalling on one particular area. Click on the link above for our
page 2 photo's of the rooms updated.
